The training role

Practice energy-control decisions before servicing begins.

Lockout/tagout depends on more than remembering where to place a lock. Workers need to identify every relevant source of hazardous energy, follow the approved sequence, verify isolation, and respond correctly when conditions differ from the expected procedure.

LOTO VRT provides a controlled place to practice those decisions around representative equipment. The module can use a standard instructional scenario or be configured around a machine, energy-control procedure, and lockout hardware used by your organization.

Energy-source survey

Identify electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, thermal, gravitational, chemical, and stored energy that may affect the task.

Notification and shutdown

Prepare for the lockout, notify affected employees, and use the normal stopping procedure before isolation.

Isolation and lock application

Locate the correct isolating devices and apply locks and tags according to the selected procedure.

Stored-energy control

Block, bleed, restrain, discharge, or otherwise control energy that remains after the primary sources are isolated.

Verification

Test the isolation using the required controls or instruments before work begins, then return controls to a safe position.

Return to service

Inspect the area, account for people and tools, remove devices under the approved process, and communicate restoration.
